Henry Foss was built in 1982, by Tacoma Boatbuilding of Tacoma, Washington (hull #439) as the Henry Foss for Foss Maritime of Seattle, Washington.
A TractorPlus Class Tug, these tugs were reconfigurations of existing Voith Water Tractor tugs built by Foss Maritime. The modifications included the installation of a single azimuthing stern drive thruster in an existing, Voith Tractor Tug. As well as the modification and subsequent removal of the skeg below the height that interfered with the single ASD, leaving the remaining upper structure of the Skeg to support the stern of the boat in dock and provide area for directional stability for a rated 4,290 horsepower.

Tote Maritime Orca Class Vessels
TOTE Maritime is proud to lead the industry in many environmental initiatives including plans to convert our vessels to liquefied natural gas power. Our goal is to continually seek ways to reduce our environmental impact through innovative programs, many of which stem from the ideas of our own employees.
Orca Class LNG Conversion
Beginning in the fall of 2015 TOTE Maritime will begin the process of converting its two Alaska ships, the MV North Star and MV Midnight Sun to natural gas. The Orca class vessels will be the third and fourth cargo ships in the United States (second only to TOTE Maritime's Marlin class ships serving Puerto Rico) to run on liquefied natural gas.
This innovative and environmentally friendly investment will help TOTE Maritime lower vessel emissions while exceeding the Environmental Protection Agencys new air emissions standards as outlined in the North American Emissions Control Area (ECA). Emissions reductions also mean healthier air quality for TOTE Maritime employees and the communities they serve.
RELIABLE. CONFIDENT. SAFE.
TOTE Maritime connects communities.
Formerly Sea Star Line and Totem Ocean Trailer Express, TOTE Maritime connects Alaska and Puerto Rico to the rest of the world with safe, reliable shipping services.
