PACIFIC ESCORT
The FOSS tugboat PACIFIC ESCORT at the Port of Portland preparing to assist the cruise ship Carnival Inspiration as she prepares to depart Vigor Industrial drydock Vigorous. Carnival Inspiration had undergone 10 days of work at the shipyard. The PACIFIC ESCORT along with tugboat DANIEL FOSS assisted the ship down the Willamette River. The SARAH FOSS, a tractor tug new to FOSS on the river, also participated in the assist. The Carnival Inspiration is 855 feet long, 86 feet in beam and draws 26 feet. The ship has a capacity of 2,052 passengers and is based in Long Beach, California.
PACIFIC ESCORT
Built in 1982, by Tacoma Boarbuilding of Tacoma, Washington (hull #437) as the Pacific Escort for FOSS Maritime of Seattle, Washington.
A Tractor-Plus Class Tugboat, these tugs were reconfigurations of existing Voith Water Tractor Tugboats built by FOSS Maritime. The modifications included the installation of a single azimuthing stern drive thruster in an existing Voith Tractor Tugboat. Rated 4,290 horsepower.
