Tugboat HUNTER CROWLEY 7,200 HP
The HUNTER, one twenty-five CMS 136-foot Invader Class tugs. Capable of achieving higher towing speeds than any other tugs in their size category because of their hull lines and high horsepower turbo-charged power plants. CMS HUNTER, achieving 7,200 horsepower, is used to provide ship assist and tanker escort services in Puget Sound.
Seattle, Washington, May 2000 Crowley Marine Services tug HUNTER won first place for the fourth consecutive year in Seattle Maritime Weeks Annual Unlimited Class Tugboat Race held on Elliott Bay. The tug plowed ahead of its competitors, reaching a speed of 16.25 knots and finishing the 1.9 nautical mile race in just six minutes and 28 seconds.
The HUNTER also placed first in 1995, 1997, 1998 and 1999. With the win in 2000, the 7,200-horsepower vessel maintains its record for the most wins ever for a single tug in the unlimited class event.
HUNTER was constructed at McDermott Shipyard in Amelia, LA. The hull is constructed of steel and the vessel has a length of 127.2 feet, hull depth of 11 feet and hull breadth of 36.5 feet. The tugboat has a gross tonnage of 199 and net tonnage of 135.
