Fishing vessel Sonia, owned by Josh Sieber, is harbored in the Blaine Marina. Josh fishes for salmon, crabs and dives for sea cucumbers from this 65-foot, wood hull, purse-seiner. Sonia fishes Puget Sound and the Boundary Bay area. Josh has owned the vessel for two years. The previous owners were Virge and Julie Viereck of Blaine. Sonia can be seen at Blaine Harbor and is a familiar sight to guests at Semiah-moo Resort as it passes by on the way to the fishing grounds.
Artist James Williamson ventured out to Boundary Bay from Blaine Harbor as a member of the crew of Sonia. The captain and previous owner of the vessel, Virgil Viereck, is now deceased and in memory of his love for this fishing boat the artist has painted a seagull as a symbol of Virgil's spirit. I h...
