The Beauty, Romance and Adventure of Sailing Vessels
The experience of those who went down to the sea in sailing ships is beautifully captured in this unique and stunning watercolor painting. A tall ship sailing through the Strait of Jaun de Fuca coming home into the inland sea of the Pacific Northwest.
An impression of the sailor’s life at sea and the time is the latter half of the nineteenth century, the last age of sail. A proper setting for this sailing adventure, the place is the Pacific Northwest, and the subject is a sailing vessel off the coast with the Point Wilson Lighthouse in the distance.
SAILING HOME views sailing as a worthy experience; a ship as a living creation of man; a crew as courageous and skillful; and a captain as an intelligent, experienced leader of men; that life on the sea is different from life on land; that sailors take fierce pride in their ships; that architects obeyed what wind and wave taught them to create the noblest of all sailing vessels. One of the most beautiful creations of man, the tall ship, has been recreated in the artwork of SAILING HOME.
The achievement of command over the great ocean routes was realized by perfect balance of spars and sails and curving lines; this harmony of mass, form and color was practiced to the music of dancing waves and brave winds whistling in the rigging. A tall ship revealing the accord of combining the creations of man and the elements of nature.
It was ships like these and their crews, which inspired our golden age of marine art and literature. SAILING HOME captures the spirit and life of the ship, transporting you to sea in an enchanted time of adventure and tall tales.
SAILING HOME symbolizes the voyage, fellowship, work, adventure, romance and danger of life and our journey on this water planet.
